Chilli Con Carne Inspired

The humble Chilli or Chilli Con Carne has been claimed by Texans as their creation. They have even taken the very formal step of making it the official dish of Texas in 1977. Celebrating their official dish with an International Chilli Cook-Off. Traditionally Chilli Con Carne is made using beef stock cubes, tomatoes, homemade chilli powder, beef, onion, and tomato paste. However, being such a popular dish, there’s plenty of variations, but they do all have one thing in common… spice! We knew creating our NEW Soup we had to pack that chilli punch, while still including our classic soup ingredients like pumpkin, sweet potato, and carrot to create a hearty and delicious soup with soul.

Chilli’s Early Origins

While Chilli Con Carne is a staple in many homes throughout Texas, there is evidence that a recipe similar to Chilli was created long before this! With text discovered from the 16th century discussing a chilli-pepper stew enjoyed by the Aztecs in Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City). This stew would be very different than the modern Chilli Con Carne enjoyed today, however there are quite a few similarities and does create the question where did Chilli originate? While we may not have all the answers, we do know that our Chilli Beef Soup is the perfect way to bust those Winter blues.
